      <description>&lt;p&gt;Chapter 9 asked whether the connected occupied crystal had a privileged boundary, and failed twice to find one. But the object it was testing was a shape: a centered disk, drawn on the material, tested afterwards for whether it behaved like a thing.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;Since then the book has been doing what that failure recommended. Chapter 10 measured what one local event causes. Chapter 11 found that finite computation routes those consequences, coupling regions the local rule cannot connect. Chapter 12 showed that hidden past-dependent state changes the crystal&amp;rsquo;s causal sensitivity, and that the resulting difference in trajectory outlives most of the trace that produced it.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
