What this experience knows

This experience is grounded in Chapter 19 and evaluates behavior one stage at a time.

Discovery boundary

The effective catalog is snapshotted for each run. A required tool can be registered in the experiment yet absent from the model’s visible set. Clear, overlapping and persuasive metadata profiles are separate configurations.

Selection boundary

The candidate must choose a named tool, clarify, answer without a tool or refuse. A final task outcome cannot prove which selection decision occurred.

Argument boundary

Each tool has its own schema and semantic checks. A limit can satisfy the generic selection shape yet violate the selected tool’s tighter contract.

Admission boundary

Read-only book tools can be admitted. publish_note is always denied in this laboratory. The model cannot authorize its own selection.

Execution boundary

Only deterministic in-page implementations execute. Search operates over a fixed nineteen-chapter summary index; get_chapter resolves registered chapters. No DOM actuation, network request, storage or publication occurs.

Result-use boundary

A second decision is evaluated after execution. Positive results require grounded chapter references. Empty results require stopping rather than inventing a successful search.

Live-model boundary

The Prompt API receives an explicit catalog snapshot and returns schema-constrained selection and result-use candidates. This is a controlled routing trial, not evidence that a browser agent automatically discovered WebMCP registrations.

Metadata boundary

Tool names and descriptions are application-provided and browserAttested: false. Persuasive text does not change deterministic effect policy.

Evidence boundary

The Observatory records stage outcomes, hashes, counts, durations and configuration labels in metrics-only mode. Tasks, model answers, queries and result excerpts stay in page memory.

This evaluator turns tool choice into six observable stages. It includes positive, negative, refusal, clarification, no-tool and empty-result fixtures alongside controlled competitors and optional catalog pressure.

The live path supplies the catalog to Chrome’s Prompt API as experimental context; it does not claim automatic WebMCP discovery. Deterministic specimens remain runnable when the Prompt API is absent, and every tool implementation is an in-page read with no network or external effect.
